Dinitia is the author of five widely-praised novels and short stories. Her books
have
been called “mesmerizing,” “sensual,” and “gripping,” transporting readers into
new and
unfamiliar worlds. For eleven years Dinitia was a reporter for the New York
Times where
she wrote about literature and intellectual trends. She has been a contributing
editor at New York Magazine. She is also an Emmy Award winning film maker, and a
drama
she wrote and directed, Passing Quietly Through, was chosen for
the New York Film Festival. She has taught fiction writing at numerous
institutions
including Columbia University, Barnard College, the Center for Fiction, and to
prison
inmates, through the Bard College Prison Initiative.
Dinitia lives in New York City and Columbia County, New York with her husband,
the
historian, David Nasaw. They have two grown sons and a grandson.
